In the early 1990s, the Loy Krathong festival in Chiang Mai included the release of sky lanterns known as "Khom Loi Yee Peng" along with floating lanterns, gaining widespread popularity. Since sky lanterns captured the attention of many spectators, Sky Lantern has emerged as a fresh emblem of the Northern Loy Krathong festival.

Floating lanterns and sky lanterns have sparked controversy because of environmental concerns and waste management. Turtle Bay launched environmentally friendly lanterns - a turtle-shaped bread lantern that can be eaten by fish and a floating lantern with fixed position extinguishers. Hence, you can partake in customary practices while also being environmentally conscious.
